Position: Middle School English Teacher (Grades 5-8)

Reports to: Head of Middle School

FLSA: Exempt

Summary

The Middle School English Teacher is a member of the full time faculty, responsible for instructing students in grades 5 through 8. The Middle School English Teacher is tasked with creating a flexible and dynamic English classroom environment and program favorable to learning and personal growth; establishing effective rapport with students, parents, and colleagues; nurturing passions and talents of students; developing each child’s skills, attitudes and knowledge needed in a strong foundation for English/language arts education in accordance with each student’s ability; collaborating and partnering with colleagues and administration to build, assess, and integrate curriculum across disciplines; fostering student success and well-being beyond their classroom. 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plan, prepare and deliver classroom English lessons, activities and materials under the overall guidance of the Head of the Middle School, Department Chair, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction
  • Provide differentiated instruction for multiple learning styles and ability levels
  • Provide a positive and creative educational climate for students to learn in
  • Meet course and school-wide student performance goals
  • Observe and evaluate student academic and social progress, submit grades and report cards in a timely manner according to the established procedures of the school
  • Accurately complete any required reports requested by school
  • Demonstrate excellent communications and collaborative skills to work with other teachers and instructional partners throughout all grade levels to strengthen community and student experience
  • Utilize creative learning aids and advancing technological tools provided by the school
  • Abide by and uphold the policies, procedures and ethical standards of the school
  • Writing thorough personal/academic recommendations for students as they matriculate to new schools
  • Maintain up-to-date curriculum documentation through Atlas platform
  • Demonstrates culturally competent skills in educational program design and delivery
  • Support the overall social and emotional well-being of students
  • Demonstrate social skills necessary to manage positive and productive interactions with students, parents, school administration and staff
  • Participate in and support school community activities, programs, and initiatives
  • Participate in meetings and professional development activities
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment that assures the well-being of students
  • Able to meet the normal hours of work and attendance necessary to provide instruction to students


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree (BA or BS) from a four-year college or university
  • Master’s degree in education preferred
  • 3-5 years of successful teaching as a lead teacher
  • Independent school experience preferred
  • Appropriately credentialed
  • Able to pass state and federal background checks
  • Clear TB and criminal background check upon hire
  • Experience working with advanced elementary and/or middle school English
