MIDDLE SCHOOL SPANISH TEACHER

This opening calls for specific teaching qualifications set by the school.

CalWest's client school in the Greater Seattle Area is seeking a Middle School Spanish Teacher to begin August 2023.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a full course load of 1.0 FTE, including 6th-8th Spanish and Middle School Advisory.
  • Cultivate a classroom community amongst a small, grade-specific advisory group utilizing the school's social-emotional learning curriculum.
  • Plan and execute lessons in accordance with the Spanish curriculum.
  • Partner with the Lower School Spanish teacher in building a cohesive, whole-school Spanish program that, upon completion (grade 8), is equivalent to Spanish 1. 
  • Assess, evaluate, and provide feedback on student performance. Partner with families, colleagues, and administration to appropriately challenge and support students. 
  • Communicate clearly, kindly, productively, and effectively with families.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred;  
  • Strong knowledge of Spanish, communicative language learning, and technology integration;
  • Familiarity with proficiency-based models of language acquisition;
  • Experience with effective classroom support strategies and positive relationship-building practices;
  • Appreciation and enjoyment of middle school students and an understanding of their learning and development;
  • Knowledge and application of differentiated instruction;
  • A commitment to cultural humility and understanding its essential role in academic growth and student preparation;  
  • Experience with and appreciation for STEAM-focused, interdisciplinary, project-based learning;
  • Fluency in 21st Century learning pedagogies;
  • An ability to use instructional technology effectively, including interactive whiteboards, document cameras, Google Apps for Education, and integrated student information systems;
  • A willingness and enthusiasm for making the school's outdoor spaces an integral part of the curriculum and instruction;
  • Enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues as part of a professional learning community;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Joyful commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
