SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM SITE DIRECTOR
Child Education Center,
La Canada, CA

This opening calls for specific administration qualifications set by the school.

CalWest's client school, Child Education Center, is seeking a School Age Program Site Director.

The CEC maintains one Site Director (SD) for each school-age program site. Each SD is responsible for effective participation in school-age program leadership, through provision of effective support for the Program Director and Director of School Age Programs in the following areas:

  • successful operation of all school-age programs and projects, with specific focus on one school-age program site                    
  • effective collaboration with Assistant Director team
  • effective site administration


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong service-oriented approach
  • BA in Child Development or Elementary Education
  • Computer literate; interest in expanding computer skills.
  • Completion of ECE Administration class.
  • Demonstrated excellence in:


  •         Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills
  •         Knowledge of child development principles for pre-school as well as school-age children
  •         Minimum 3 years school-age teaching experience in a leadership role

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities of the Site Director, under the direction of the School-Age Director are:

PROGRAM

  • Maintain quality standards set by NAEYC and NAA for accreditation through school-age program and curriculum management
  • Provide effective site leadership, including:


  • Interpretation and articulation of program philosophy, emergent curriculum and anti-bias practices                    
  • Consistency of program implementation across age groups
  • Identification and problem solving of issues with children, teachers, and parents as they arise


  • Team-building
  • Modeling and maintenance of effective communication
  • Oversee planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate, emergent curriculum that integrates anti-bias learning; ensure successful implementation of best practices


STAFF

  • Assist Director with recruitment and hiring of school-age staff
  • Directly supervise, mentor, and train, and evaluate performance of school-age staff, including floaters
  • Provide orientation and supervise training and evaluation of new site staff
  • Conduct routine (daily/weekly/monthly) individual and group staff meetings
  • Implement staff development plan for school-age staff
  • Support Director in ensuring effective daily staffing of site, in accordance with the budget
  • Provide direct supervision of children as designed for each site, and as needed.
  • Supervise school-age student volunteers and practicum students
  • Maintain a safe (psychologically and physically) working environment 

 

CHILDREN/PARENTS

  • Implement enrollment of children in school-age program; conduct enrollment tours with prospective parents; support Director as requested
  • Conduct developmental assessment of school-age children
  • Conduct assessment and implement program service to school-age children with special needs, in collaboration with Director and Frostig Center
  • Provide ongoing school-age parent communication, support, education

 

ADMINISTRATION

  • Coordinate with Program and School-Age Directors and other master teachers to address programmatic and organizational issues.
  • Conduct routine purchasing within the budget for school-age groups
  • Support the work of the Development Division; serve as Consulting Associate as required
  • Implement school-age site transportation plan; procure and maintain current class B, Youth Bus Certification, for back-up transportation of school-age children.                      
  • Ensure staff compliance with van regulations
  • Provide for training and certification of van drivers
  • Supervise unexpected van maintenance in coordination with the Facility Manager
  • Supervise daily safety checks of vans and drivers’ concerns
  • Participate on van maintenance team (Facility Coordinator, Maintenance Person)

 

PROFESSIONAL/BUSINESS RELATIONS

  • Maintain effective professional relations
  • Represent the CEC to LCUSD, Westridge School, St. Bede the Venerable School, and Caltech personnel, and to outside agencies, the local community, and the general public
  • Support the activities of the Director of School Age Programs, the Program Director, and Executive Director as requested
