This opening calls for specific teaching qualifications set by the school.
Marlborough School, an independent, college preparatory school in Los Angeles for 530 young women in grades 7-12, seeks a dynamic Mandarin Chinese instructor to join the faculty for the 2020-2021 school year.
Marlborough’s Mission defines the School as “an independent, urban day school serving a diverse group of young women.” We believe an inclusive, diverse faculty is essential to the Mission of the School for the following reasons:
● We instill confidence and cultivate leadership potential within each student and serve as role models in inspiring them to pursue their personal best.
● We empower each graduate with the skills and motivation to create meaningful connections with people throughout the nation and across the world.
● We serve as role models for our students with teaching responsibilities that extend beyond the classroom and the curriculum.
It is our responsibility to employ a diverse group of educators who exemplify excellence in teaching and leadership, and who teach by example as well as by pedagogy.
In the World Languages Department, we expect our language learners to attain increasingly higher levels of proficiency as measured by the national standards set forth by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). The Marlborough Mandarin Chinese course sequence develops the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and includes appropriate cultural, historical, and literary materials at all levels. In addition, the Department seeks to expose students to current events, culture, and identities in the Chinese-speaking world. To better facilitate our goals, we expect students to use little or no English in class, even at the novice level.
The ideal candidate for the position has, at minimum, a B.A. in Chinese, at least 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferably in an immersion classroom for advanced beginners (a 90/10 model or 50/50 model), and enthusiasm for teaching grades 7-12.
Marlborough School is committed to a policy of equal employment opportunity. We will not discriminate against employees or applicants for employment on any basis made unlawful by federal, state or local laws, including, but not limited to, race, color, creed, sex, religion, marital status, age, national origin or ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, or sexual orientation.
CalWest and our partner schools are unable to respond to all applicants.
Candidates may be submitted to multiple positions during their time with CalWest. Also, candidates may not be chosen to move forward in the search they initially expressed interest in pursuing.
Our client schools make the final decisions.
