Middle School Homeroom

Position Description

Armstrong has a co-teaching model which includes: team teaching, one lead/one support, parallel teaching and alternative teaching. With this model, our homeroom co-teachers work closely to plan, develop and deliver differentiated instruction to students. Middle school homeroom teachers are responsible for leading daily advisory meetings with students and co-teacher.

In the classroom, the teacher will work to create an educational setting where students have the opportunity to fulfill their personal and academic potential. Candidates will possess an interest in teaching students with language based learning differences, such as dyslexia. The teacher will be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will capitalize on student strengths and result in students achieving academic success in accordance with Charles Armstrong methodology and mission.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, differentiated instruction in a small math group of students.
  • Co-teach English classes, collaborating with teaching partner to deliver lessons, differentiate instruction based on student needs, and work with individual or small groups of students who need additional support or extension.
  • Teach elective classes of your choosing to middle school students during two out of the four
  • quarters of the year.
  • Identify, select, and modify instructional resources to meet the needs of students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and learning needs.
  • Use classroom management systems that are focused on social emotional needs.
  • Provide a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate regularly and effectively with grade level teammates and other English and Math teachers within the middle school.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when working with students, parents, peers, and community.

Education, Certifications, and Work Related Experience

Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred

  • Valid teaching credential
  • Experience with and understanding of adolescent children in grades 6-8
  • Three to five years of classroom teaching experience
  • Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching methodologies, such as:
