The 2nd grade Lead Teacher is a professional, experienced and passionate educator with teaching experience at the lower school level.


  • Create age appropriate lesson plans
  • Attend and participate in curriculum planning meetings
  • Participate in committee work, faculty meetings, parent coffees and additional duties as assigned
  • Lead parent conferences and maintain weekly communication with parents throughout the year
  • Work in a highly collaborative community to develop and implement a creative and challenging curriculum
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, and commitment to, New Roads philosophy and approach to education
  • Demonstrate commitment to social justice and working with a diverse community
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of subject matter and effectiveness in teaching
  • Demonstrate an ability to assess students at their appropriate developmental levels
  • Ability to differentiate for individual students based on their unique learning needs so students are appropriately engaged and challenged
  • Maintain and communicate high expectations and boundaries in a consistently kind, clear and respectful manner
  • Provide students with opportunities and support in the development of critical thinking and problem solving skills, the exploration of ideas, and the development of leadership qualities
  • Communicate with parents and students and the ability to collaborate with other members of the faculty
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Demonstrated knowledge of sound pedagogical skills
  • Strong background in math and reading instruction at the lower elementary level
  • Experience and interest in differentiated instruction and a project-based, constructivist approach to teaching and learning
  • Highly developed writing and organizational skills
  • Background/interest/passion for teaching language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science in a self contained classroom
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong foundation in child development
  • Possess excellent classroom management skills
  • Have passion for personal and professional growth
  • 3+ years teaching experience at the lower elementary level, preferably in an independent school
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related educational field required
