Lower School Music Teacher

Hillbrook School is seeking a full-time lower school (Junior Kindergarten - 4th grade) music teacher to teach music classes and participate in grade-level activities that support the student experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in JK - 4th grade, with age-appropriate strategies and activities, in music theory, rhythm, movement, harmony, and music appreciation
  • Design and produce an annual Spring Concert for students in 1st - 4th grade
  • Design and produce, in collaboration with the Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten teams, an annual JK/K Family Celebration in the spring
  • Implement the school’s social-emotional curriculum, which is based on Responsive Classroom
  • Design integrated, project-based experiences for the weekly Reach Beyond block in collaboration with colleagues
  • Provide hands-on, inquiry-based teaching; manage collaborative learning groups; integrate technology into the curriculum
  • Communicate and follow up on student progress, liaising with parents
  • Collaborate and co-teach with colleagues, including the Middle School music and drama teachers and Resident Teachers, with a focus on differentiated instruction
  • Actively participate in a faculty culture that is committed to being at the leading edge of K-8 education
  • Report to the Associate Head of School


Qualifications:

  • A love of elementary-age school children
  • Master’s degree and three years teaching experience preferred in music or music education
  • Demonstrated skills as a musician
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in a dynamic, 21st-century school community
  • Expertise and experience teaching the Orff-Schulwerk method preferred
  • Ability to work in a collegial, collaborative environment
  • A growth mindset, active sense of humor, warm personality, and excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in educational technology
