Director of Student Life

This opening calls for specific administration qualifications set by the school.

The Director of Student Life is responsible for overseeing a student life program that realizes this mission and vision by ensuring students’ personal growth, social-emotional development, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with teenagers and has a demonstrated commitment to building authentic relationships with individual students, student leaders, and student groups that encourage cohesiveness, agency, voice, and inclusivity. This position will be combined with classroom teaching or other responsibilities. The Director of Student Life reports to the Assistant Head of School.

Responsibilities:

  • Works to develop, implement, and manage policies, protocols, and practices that serve to foster a sense of belonging, safety, and respect among students.
  • Develops programming designed to enhance student leadership skills and oversees the leadership program.
  • Collaborating with the class Deans, designs and evaluates the advisory program.
  • Oversees extracurricular clubs, including student council, building capacity for student leadership and connections to the rest of the program.
  • Serves as the leader of the student discipline committee and process and is responsible for resolving behavior-based student issues and ensuring a positive school climate. Develops and implements student conduct and disciplinary processes that align with California requirements and regulations as well as are in keeping with the School’s philosophies. Regularly evaluates and revises, as needed, disciplinary practices at the school to ensure that outcomes are equitable, transparent, and restorative.
  • Designs and schedules special programs and events for the student body that address student development, health, and wellness, including SEL programming.
  • Actively participates in regular student support meetings to proactively address students’ needs and crisis management as appropriate. Helps implement actions items.
  • Works closely with parents to help support their childrens' development, including holding conferences with parents when appropriate and designing parent education programming.
  • Ensures that programming and practices are rooted in best practice and research.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements: 

In addition to the qualities and skills noted above, the ideal candidate will possess and have demonstrated:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum five years of related experience.
  • Authentic appreciation for adolescents and a deep interest in developing personal and generative relationships with all students.
  • Knowledge of laws, policies and procedures, and best practices regarding student discipline.
  • Experience designing and implementing programs to promote student leadership development.
  • Effectiveness in managing complex tasks, prioritizing among competing demands for time and attention, and driving projects to completion.
  • Strong problem solving and team building skills.
  • Timely and thoughtful communication skills.

Compensation:

  • Salary Range: $110,000-$120,000
