To plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities for all Teachers
- Creates lesson plans to carry out the curriculum in thoughtful and engaging ways.
- Grades students on their ability to achieve the physical goals set for students.
- Understands and upholds all policies and procedures outlined in the personnel, faculty, and student/parent handbook.
- Upholds the mission of the school and act as a positive ambassador for the school
- Has a firm grasp of knowledge of subject and content-related pedagogy; such knowledge should be apparent to the students and to a classroom observer.
- Follows the given curriculum for the courses taught and keep grading norms in line with that of the department.
- Carries out all duties associated with teaching the classes on a teacher’s given schedule. This may include advisory, homeroom, aiding, or other duties as needed.
- Maintains respectful and cooperative interactions with students, parents, teachers, co-workers, and administrators.
- Creates a classroom environment of respect and maintaining a classroom environment where the social and emotional welfare of the students are protected to the best of a teacher’s abilities.
- Creates a classroom environment that allows a student’s confidence to grow and one where the student is inspired and feels safe enough to think creatively.
- Creates a classroom environment where a culture of learning is fostered and high academic expectations are the norm.
- Creates well-organized, meaningful, and creative lesson plans that incorporate teaching strategies in a thoughtful manner to further and maximize student learning.
- Creates lesson plans and assessments that ensure congruence between instructional goals and student learning.
- Is a positive role model for students, taking into account the teacher’s influence on each student’s personal growth, academic ability and passion, and emotional stability.
- Is an efficient, energetic, and supportive homeroom teacher. This includes communicating logistical information that students need to be aware of, communicating larger school messages such as reinforcing the tools from Toolbox (lower school), as well as be an active participant for spirit and service activities, as needed.
- Efficiently manages the students in the teacher’s classroom and maintain a high standard for classroom behavior.
- Is available for extra help times for the teacher’s given grade or division level.
- Keeps counselors informed of students who are falling behind in classes as well as students with larger academic, social, or emotional concerns.
- Maintains open lines of communications with the parent body and promptly notifies parents when individual student issues arise.
- Maintains clear oral and written communication with students regarding expectations, grades, and behavior, as appropriate for the age one teaches.
- Is timely in communications with parents, students, administrators, and co-workers.
- Is punctual and have a consistent and good attendance record.
- Assesses students efficiently so that they can received helpful and timely feedback.
- Consistently meets deadlines; such deadlines include but are not limited to those pertaining to submission of grades, progress reports, and comments.
- Prepares progress reports, comments (lower school), and reach outs (middle school), and grades for mailing for all three trimesters.
- Attends meetings as directed by the division head or department chair. This includes but is not limited to weekly Wednesday (Tuesday for preschool) meetings after school.
- Participates in school functions that extend beyond normal school hours but are necessary for the welfare of the school. Such functions include but are not limited to Back to School Night, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Family Picnic, the faculty retreat, Open House, etc.
- Carry out supervisory duties as directed by the division head.
- Maintain one’s substitute folder, leaving adequate plans for substitutes, and notifying the division head in advance of planned absences.
- Ability to communicate in effective English with faculty, staff, vendors, etc. in person and by telephone
- Keep a work area that is clean, secure and well maintained.

- Strong familiarity with all information covered in the student, faculty, and personnel handbooks.

Knowledge, Skill & Ability Requirements
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
- Ability to walk easily within the classroom to effectively work with and address student needs.
- 3 – 5 years teaching experience in relevant subject area and appropriate grade level division.
